Service Standards

Some garages will change only your oil filter, others will carry out a full service. A good garage will follow a service checklist and give you a copy of that completed checklist as confirmation of a job well done. Good Garage Scheme members carry out your service incorporating the Industry Standard Service Checklist.

Does your car need a service?

Most modern cars only need a service once a year, but older cars require a service once every six months. The manufacturer’s service handbook will set what is best for your car. The type of service you need will also be affected by how you use your car. For example, lots of short journeys where the engine does not have a chance to warm up properly will probably mean more frequent oil and filter changes.

Bag Thief Update!

Following great support and feedback from nearly all the party goers at the recent 31st July birthday party, the nett is closing on the shameful, disgraceful bag thief! The final review of the 16 CCTV Monitors is almost complete and should reveal the identity of the thief within the next few days. If you have been offered a apple i Phone or Red Olympus digital camera in the last few days then please call to claim your reward. Thanks to all the readers of the Caerphilly Campaign for their support and response. Conversely if you have the items and are too embarrassed to hand them back then don’t be just call me and arrange their return.

Bag Thief

The last ever garage party was a hugh success only to be tainted by some petty thief. As the night went on around three as the party was in full swing somebody took my girlfriend Heather’s hand bag. It was black in colour, had a shawl wrapped around it and contained an Apple I phone with a blue case , a camera (Olympus) and our house and car keys. There was no money inside. She is massively upset and so am I. To think that we spent all that money and invited all those people for one person to spoil the night. I have placed an article in the local paper offering a £500 reward for the return of the bag with the items.

On The Phone!

3 points now for using a mobile

Transport Secretary Douglas Alexander has confirmed that from February 27 drivers caught using a mobile phone will get three points on their license (previously no points) and a £60 fine, double the current £30.

Mr Alexander also stated that it was “impossible to do two things at once”.

European Union legislation affecting the motor trade

In October 2002, European Union legislation affecting the motor trade came into force. It`s full title is “Block Exemption Regulations 1400/2002″ (in short BER)This legislation changes the way cars may be serviced and repaired and gives motorists a lot more freedom in their decision as to who should look after their cars. Before BER it was very difficult to have cars which were still covered by the manufacturer`s warranty, serviced anywhere except a franchised dealer. Now, motorists CAN use any garage of their choice to service and repair their cars WITHOUT invalidating the manufacturer`s warranty (subject to certain conditions).

BER is subject to renewal in 2010. If the rules mentioned were to be lost then comsumers and independant repairers would suffer severely. The latest revision of the BER introduces four “freedoms” that are aimed at safeguarding free competition in the entire market for vehicle spare parts, service and repair. They affect the way in which the parts distribution can act in the market. (more…)
